Our Beautiful Birth Center
Since 1993, more than 3,900 families have chosen Birth and Women’s Center for safe, nurturing care. Ours was the first Dallas birth center to be staffed by Certified Nurse Midwives. The center, a 100-year-old home, is nestled among the quaint Victorians of the Swiss Avenue historic district and is only three blocks from a major hospital.
Amy has worked in supporting women as a doula, birth assistant and lactation counselor for over 20 years. She and her brothers were born at home. Her mother taught child birth classes for a midwife in Austin in the early 70’s, birth has been a natural part of life for as long as she can remember, having attended births since childhood. Amy’s lifelong passion drew her back to midwifery after many years as a Business Manager. She has worked at Birth and Women’s Center part time for 10 years and completed her Midwifery training at Birth and Women’s Center this year.
Amy is the mother of 4 boys, all born naturally, two at home and two at Baylor. She recognizes that all women should have the chance to have the birth they desire. It is Amy’s goal to help women feel empowered through their birth experience.
I am a mother of six from the ages of 32 to 13 year old twins. I have felt a deep connection to birthing women my entire life. My becoming a midwife is the culmination of over 20 years of dreaming and patience, while I raised my own family. I feel every birth is a sacred rite of passage, for you and your baby. In my care your wishes and desires will be respected while your health and the welfare of your baby will be safely guarded. I believe in the midwifery model of care, and most importantly, I believe in relationship-based care
I have home educated my children for most of the last 28 years. I am an avid lover of everything spiritual, sacred and divine. In my spare time I love to read, travel and spend time with my family. When I'm not with birthing moms and their babies I can be found avidly researching new healing modalities or snuggling up, reading next to my dear ones.
